The European Reuse Barometer is the independent reference tracking the growth of reusable packaging systems across Europe — sector by sector, country by country, year after year.
Led by New ERA, Zero Waste Europe and Planet Reuse, the Barometer compiles economic, social and operational data on reuse solutions across Europe every year — structured around the categories of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). See the full methodology →
Reusable logistics and industrial packaging.
Deposit and return systems for the beverage sector.
Reusable containers for food service and snacking.
Bulk, refill and everyday reusable packaging.
The Barometer grows every year — in number of companies, countries covered, and now in national granularity.
90 companies surveyed. The first pan-European snapshot of reuse, structured by sector.
115 companies, 18 national partners. Launch of the Belgium extensions: RE-VRAC Belgium (FR, with Fost Plus) and the Belgium Reuse Report (EN) — the Barometer's first national spin-off.
The report structure is rebuilt around PPWR categories. This restructuring comes with the Barometer opening up to B2B (transport packaging), which was previously under-represented in past editions.
Participating companies and partners explain what the Barometer brings them.
"The Barometer gave us real intelligence on funding needs and operational gaps. It's a must-read for anyone willing to reduce the use of single-use packaging."
"Besides the long-standing 'hidden champions' of reuse in B2B transport packaging, we observe an increase in B2C solutions developing, diversifying and expanding."

Zero Waste Europe (ZWE) is the European network of communities, local leaders, experts, and change agents working towards a better use of resources and the elimination of waste in our society. They advocate for sustainable systems, for the redesign of our relationship with resources, and for a global shift towards environmental justice — accelerating a just transition towards zero waste for the benefit of people and the planet.

The New European Reuse Alliance (New ERA) is the leading European trade association representing companies offering reusable and refillable packaging solutions across the entire packaging value chain — from manufacturers to service providers. It covers multiple market segments including takeaway, e-commerce, retail, and transport packaging, addressing both B2B and B2C contexts. Its mission is to advocate for strong European policies that create the economic conditions necessary to unlock the full potential of reuse and refill systems.

Planet Reuse is the first European online platform and network bringing together professionals to connect, learn, and collaborate on the topic of reuse and reusable packaging. Its vision is to accelerate the transition from linear to circular distribution models across European countries, preventing packaging from becoming waste in the first place. Launched in September 2022, the platform now brings together over 1,400 members from more than 850 organisations.
